Updating xp sp2 to sp3
For these tests I used a PC with a fresh install of Windows XP Service Pack 2.The test pc also had a couple of utilities installed. In the meantime, it will be interesting to read updated reports on the trial version currently available. Apart from any fair dealing for the purpose of private study or research, no part may be reproduced without the written permission. There is little doubt that Microsoft would like to persuade users that Vista is the way to go, but for the time being a packaged fix at no cost to users seems fine. The content is provided for information purposes only. This will allow users access to features in the Windows Server 2008 operating system. In addition, the white paper indicates there will be "select" out-of-band releases and a small number of new releases.I will be using Nortons Ghost to create image backups of the PC before and after each test, which I will refer to as the baseline image backup.
The latest from Microsoft is a news of an upcoming download for Windows XP called Windows XP Service Pack 3.
Note that this script will only work for updates installed using WU5 technology.
The information is gathered from the C:\WINDOWS\Software Distribution\Data Store folder.
The second method will once again start with a clean install of SP2 and then I will immediately apply SP3 using the SP3 download file.
A comparison of the files installed using both methods will then be made.
